Invisalign vs. Veneers: Which Cosmetic Treatment Is Right for Your Smile?
Ready to transform your smile? Invisalign® or custom porcelain veneers may be right for your cosmetic goals.

Are you unhappy with crooked, chipped, or stained teeth? Transform your smile with advanced cosmetic dentistry. Two of the most popular options are Invisalign® and porcelain veneers.

At Desert Dental in North Hollywood, California, Dr. Brian Shahangian and our team help patients achieve their dream smiles every day. Invisalign and veneers both deliver beautiful results, but they work differently.

Understanding the difference is the first step toward choosing the right path for your smile.

How do Invisalign and veneers work?

Invisalign clear aligners straighten your natural teeth over time, while veneers cover cosmetic flaws with thin porcelain shells.

To straighten your teeth, you must wear your clear aligners 20-22 hours each day. This approach preserves your natural tooth structure but requires daily discipline. At our office, we use the advanced iTero™ digital scanner to map out your Invisalign treatment with precision.

Veneers offer a much faster visual transformation. However, veneer treatment may not be reversible because the dentist must remove a thin layer of tooth enamel. Once that protective enamel is gone, those teeth will always need artificial covers.

Which cosmetic option lasts longer?

Veneers are highly durable but eventually need replacement, while Invisalign results last as long as you wear your retainer. Porcelain is incredibly strong but still subject to daily wear-and-tear. Porcelain laminate veneers have a 10-year survival rate of 95.5%.

Invisalign physically moves your teeth into alignment. However, teeth naturally tend to shift back to their original positions over time. To protect your investment, we design a custom retainer for you to wear at night.

If you grind your teeth, we can also create a custom night guard to protect your new smile.

How do we help you choose the right path?

We evaluate your oral health, lifestyle, and aesthetic goals to recommend the safest treatment for you. Before starting any cosmetic procedure, we ensure your teeth and gums are healthy. Dentists must treat active decay or gum disease before placing veneers or starting aligners.

At our North Hollywood office, we perform a comprehensive exam to build a healthy foundation first. If you want to correct severe crowding, Invisalign is often the healthiest choice. If you want to change the shape, size, and color of your teeth quickly, veneers may be ideal.

We also offer comprehensive smile makeovers that combine multiple cosmetic dentistry treatments.
